Written opinion — certification mark registrability + trademark conflict analysis
"I engaged Anna for a trademark registrability and conflict opinion on a credential system and a product name, against an incumbent with three live registrations. She was the only one of nine bidders who engaged the actual legal question instead of restating the standard factors. During vetting she raised an angle, was challenged on it, conceded, and told me the correction cut against my position. That is the person you want writing an opinion. The opinion itself pulled the prosecution histories from the USPTO, ran a knock-out search, and gave me a clear answer on each of the five questions, including one I had framed wrong. The recommendation reversed the order of my own plan and was right to. She marked every assumption, listed what she had not verified, and drew a hard line at the edge of her admission, routing the California questions to California counsel instead of guessing. When I sent follow-up questions she corrected an imprecision in her own text before answering them. If your question is about whether something can be registered and what to do first, this is who to hire."

Trademark Risk Assessment
"Worked with Brent on a legal review for my business and would absolutely engage him again. Two things really stood out: speed — he turned around a comprehensive deliverable on a tight timeline — and framing — the entire analysis was built around enabling the business, not just flagging risk. He's sharp, knowledgeable, refreshingly practical, and treats founders as partners. Highly recommend to any founder looking for outside counsel who actually thinks like an operator."

Key Takeaways
- A word may qualify for trademark protection if customers use it to identify the source of goods or services.
- You trademark a brand word. You do not patent or copyright the word itself.
