In-House Recruiter

Recruiting is a core strategic driver of UpCounsels’ success. The right person will be comfortable in an "all hands on deck" environment, loves solving people problems and can thrive in a startup culture. This role is all about bringing on the smartest folks, maintaining our culture as we grow crazy fast, and putting processes in place to keep it moving.

You will run the recruitment process from start to finish, including working with management to define required skill sets, screening candidates, coordinating interviews and closing offers. You will also manage the UpCounsel brand from a recruiting standpoint, by telling the story of the UpCounsel opportunity and culture. This role requires that you be highly proactive in sourcing and recruiting the best -- posting a job description and seeing what happens won’t come close to cutting it.

You are:

A people person with a passion for sourcing and recruitment. You’re creative, driven and always follow through on projects - from beginning to end, you own it. You’re a connector, relationship builder, and a storyteller, a basic technical background and an understanding of the world of technology.

As a Talent Expert you will:

  • Drive full-cycle talent acquisition strategy and results.
  • Develop and execute search strategies designed to recruit the best talent.
  • Develop fresh content for our social media and careers pages.
  • Maintain recruitment applicant tracking system ensuring information is up-to-date for all open positions.
  • Source passive candidates for difficult to fill positions on platforms such as Linkedin, Indeed, Dice and more.
  • Coordinate phone, onsite and google hangout interviews for candidates.
  • Manage onsite interview schedule and responsible for meeting and greeting candidates and passing them onto the right interviewers.
  • Perform administrative duties to support the HR team.
  • Provide timely communication and feedback to candidates and hiring managers.
  • Find candidates with a growth mindset who will thrive in our mission-driven culture.
  • Partner with hiring managers to understand the needs and increase efficacy.
  • Educate and coach hiring managers on how to interview and acquire talent.


  • 3-5 years recruiting experience in-house or at an agency, preferably including start-up experience
  • Experience hiring engineering and product talent
  • Direct sourcing experience with a demonstrated ability to build a pipeline of qualified candidates for a variety of positions at different levels of the organization.
  • Knowledge of technical jargon and skill sets.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and extensive experience conducting interviews.
  • Experience coaching and providing feedback to interviewers and hiring managers.
  • Great selling and closing skills.
  • Outstanding communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Knowledgeable with Application Tracking Systems, a strong plus.
  • Able to work in start-up environment.
  • A passion for technology and start-ups.
