About
In 1996, I became one of the founding shareholders at Venable, Campillo, Logan & Meaney (now Venjuris Law). In October 2014, I left to start my current practice. I have prosecuted hundreds of patent, trademark, and copyright matters before the USPTO. I have represented over a hundred intellectual property matters in U.S. courts. I was lead counsel for MDY Industries LLC before the… read more Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals where I obtained a favorable reversal in a landmark copyright decision involving the DMCA against Blizzard Entertainment [629 F.3d 938 (2010)].
Before attending law school, I worked as a design and applications engineer for Motorola, Digital Equipment Corporation, and US West Communications in Phoenix, Arizona.

Client Reviews
"Attorney Lance Venable was hired to file several trademarks for our new business. He came highly recommended by another client. I had filed one trademark application with the USPTO and knew I needed help with the others! Lance refiled my initial application and filed the others in an efficient and expedient manner. Lance was always available for questions either via email or phone. His courteous and friendly manner made each conversation enjoyable and knowledgeable as he explained in layman’s terms the trademark process and how the steps worked. I highly recommend Lance Venable for trademark filing. He took away the pain of the whole process!"
"Attorney Lance Venable has worked with us for over 15 years. During this period, Lance has repeatedly demonstrated his expertise in trademark infringement, saving our company considerable time and money. In doing so, Lance has help protect our intellectual property and maintain our longstanding reputation as a manufacturer of quality products. Lance thoroughly reviews each incident and provides sound, candid legal counsel on the best way to handle our cases. Given his knowledge, experience, and effectiveness in getting the job done, we highly recommend Lance."
"Lance was my attorney in the MDY Industries vs Blizzard Entertainment case. This was a very complex case of first impressions revolving around copyright law vs contract language and how software EULAs can be used as a vehicle to create copyright infringement, DMCA violations, and tortious interference. Lance represented my company (and me personally) in Federal District of Arizona Court and then up on appeal to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals. He was instrumental in briefing and oral argument before the 3-judge panel, where our case was combined with two other similar ones: Vernor v Autodesk and UMG Records v Augusto. Without Lance’s expert help and relentless work, I would have most certainly been stuck personally liable and left a horrible precedent in AZ. Instead, the appeals court severed me personally and reversed the flawed copyright decision rendered by the district court."
"We have had the pleasure of having Lance handle our Intellectual Property legal work for the last several years. He is a fantastic intellectual property attorney and I highly recommend him. Lance has done a fantastic job reviewing patentability, making recommendations on probability of patentability and preparing patent applications that have ultimately been granted as patents. Lance really dives in and gets to know the technology and the inventions. Due to this due diligence, he is able to create very well crafted claims within our applications. We put a lot of trust in Lance and consider him one of the team. For intellectual property legal work he’s one of the best out there."
