"Even though I have known Matthew for over a decade, this post is about how he came to my rescue when I felt defenseless. In 2018, I found myself in over my head with a previous employer (a large paper conglomerate) in trying to settle a dispute over items needing to be sent to me after an involuntary severance from the company due to layoffs. This HR department started to take weeks to respond to a single email, asked for proof of purchase for items that were gifts, and accused me of claiming inflated prices on my lost things. Why this might not be his everyday practice, once he heard my story, it seemed that he new he needed to help.
