As a teenager, Dani Oliva was deeply involved in the global music scene, participating in guerrilla marketing efforts for labels such SUB POP Records, Kill Rock Stars, Sudden Death Records, and many more.
At age seventeen Dani attended the American Music Awards in Los Angeles, California. Inspired, Dani adapted the award show model to an independent music audience by founding the Toronto Independent Music Awards (TIMA).
Now on its ninth season, TIMA is a highly anticipated event recognizing a wide range of independent musicians. The TIMA’s industry-studded grand jury has awarded more than $180,000 in… read more industry-sponsored prizes to musicians in over 20 genres. Notable acts involved with TIMA have Jully Black (Multi-Award Winning Artist), Bif Naked (Multi-Platinum Selling Artist), Alannah Myles (Grammy winning/Top 100 Recording Artist), and JD ERA (ICE H20 / Black Market Music Group / Universal).
Building on the success of TIMA, Dani co-founded Drugs Sex Rock ‘n’ Roll (DSRNR). DSRNR booked Tokyo Police Club (Saddle Creek / Memphis Industries) for one of their first gigs and planned parties with MSTRKRFT (Last Gang Records / PAIS Recordings / Dim Mak Records).
In 2008, Dani graduated from the University of Toronto earning an Honours Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Art History. After college, Dani moved to Southern California to attend law school at the University of La Verne. During law school, Dani externed in the legal department at the Live Nation headquarters in Beverly Hills, California. Dani later served as a judicial extern for the United States Bankruptcy Court, Central District, CA.
Dani earned a Juris Doctor and was admitted to practice in 2013 before the California State Courts and the Federal District Court of California, Central District.
Dani has been featured as a judge and music expert alongside industry heavyweights Alan Moulder (NIN, The Killers, Smashing Pumpkins) and Dave Porter (A&R Universal Music Canada), among others. Dani also writes about music for The Huffington Post.
