Client Reviews
"I came to Dan after I purchased residential rental investment property; and I was having severe problems with the general contractor that I hired to renovate the property. The GC abandoned the job before completion; it recorded a mechanics lien against my Property; and the GC filed a lawsuit and arbitration demand against me. Dan promptly examined both my legal case and my property; and he determined that not only did I have solid defenses to the GC’s case, I also had a valuable counterclaim. After submitting all claims to an arbitrator, a ruling was entered in my favor, including a judgment in my favor that covered most of my attorney’s fees. Throughout the process, Dan always communicated clearly and quickly; and he devised a creative strategy to both defend the GC’s claims, and recover a judgment in my favor. I would highly recommend his services. -Vidette Alvis"
"In the early 2000’s I invested in residential rental properties throughout the Chicago area; which included dozens of residential units, and some commercial space as well. Unfortunately, I entered into these investments with an unscrupulous partner; and he had the loans for these properties cross collateralized, including pledging my personal residence as collateral. Making matters worse, I subsequently learned that guaranties for each of these loans had been signed in my name, even though I had never seen these guaranty documents. As the foreclosure crisis worsened, all of the investment properties went into foreclosure. Eventually, the banks were coming after me and my home, and seeking over $2 million in damages against me. That’s when I retained Dan Schlade. He came in right away, reviewed my loan file, and discovered numerous discrepancies. Rather than lay down and try to negotiate a workout, he ran into court and filed counterclaims against the lender. After the judge forced us into a settlement conference, Dan was able to educate the judge and show the potential fraud that had been inflicted upon me. At this conference, Dan was then able to negotiate an agreement that: (1) released me from any personal liability; (2) permitted me to keep my home, including over $100,000 in equity; and (3) paid Dan’s attorney’s fees in their entirety. My entire life was on the line in these proceedings, and Dan saved it. -Janette Maysonet"
