Worked for Alameda County District Attorney’s Office, Oakland, California, as a Deputy District Attorney from June 1980 to December 1984. Prosecuted crimes ranging from petty theft to homicide. Tried 75+ cases to verdict; prosecuted 250+ preliminary examinations.

Continuing work with Chevron Companies, worked for Chevron USA, Inc., San Francisco, California, as Assistant General Counsel from Jan. 1992 to Dec 1996. Promoted to nationwide responsibility for managing the litigation of the operating company with the most litigation within the corporation. Designed litigation management techniques and processes to minimize costs and maximize results.

From Jan 1997 to Jan. 2002 returned to Chevron Corporation, San Francisco, California as Chief Trial Counsel. Promoted to management responsibility of all litigation and trial attorneys on the west coast for all Chevron companies. Managed lawyers, paralegals and secretaries and carried own caseload of litigation.

With Chevron/Texaco merger all litigation was out-sourced. Created new position of Managing Counsel-Real Estate and Information Technology Legal Services within Chevron Corporation Law Group, headquartered in San Ramon, California. Headed group of lawyers, paralegals and secretaries to provide legal services for information technology and real estate clients across the Chevron companies. Developed expertise in negotiating, drafting and managing and multi-million dollar IT contracts internationally and domestically. Developed legal expertise and provided counsel on electronic data privacy across the world, including writing privacy policies and terms of use statements for Chevron websites world-wide. Provided legal counsel on the encryption methodology used by company throughout the world. Designed and implemented business and electronic process for legal discovery compliance.
